JAKARTA, KanalMuria – The Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Muhadjir Effendy said, the progress of Indonesia’s sporting achievements depends on the freedom of the Indonesian generation from stunting problems.
Coordinating Minister Muhadjir stated that Indonesia’s sporting achievements are currently not that “flashy” because there are still many generations of stunting filling national sports posts.
“My guess is why our achievements have not accelerated because there are still many generations of stunting,” he said, while attending the Announcement of Chef De Mission Multievent for the Indonesian Team 2023, at the Indonesian Olympic Commission Office, on Tuesday (14/02).
Data from the World Bank or the World Bank stated that 54 percent of the productive age or Indonesian workforce experienced stunting during their infancy. This means that almost half of the current workforce are stunting survivors.
Quoted from kemenkopmk.go.id, to produce a generation of Indonesians who are strong and competitive, Muhadjir said, the government is trying to reduce the potential for the birth of a stunted generation and also deal with extreme poverty. The target set by President Jokowi in 2024 is 14 percent, then for poverty in 2024 the target is 0 percent.
Various interventions were carried out by the government to achieve the target of tackling stunting and extreme poverty throughout Indonesia. Starting with teenage girls, before pregnancy, and interventions during pregnancy with nutrition fulfillment for pregnant women, and nutrition fulfillment for infants and toddlers.
Then, for extreme poverty, the intervention carried out by the government is in fulfilling sanitation and clean water facilities, and improving the slum environment.
According to Muhadjir, efforts to deal with stunting and extreme poverty are efforts made by the government to ensure that the generation that is born is a strong and superior generation that is free from stunting.
“We can’t possibly expect the next generation to be tough, win in all sporting events if from the start they have to be convinced that they are not stunted,” he said.
On that occasion, Chairman of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) Raja Sapta Oktohari announced 3 Indonesian Contingent Chef de Mission (CdM) in 3 international sports multievents to be held in 2023.
The Coordinating Minister for PMK on that occasion also handed over a Decree (SK) as well as pinned a jacket indicating the head of the Indonesian Team contingent. He also gave appreciation to the figures who were appointed as the chairman of the contingent and called it an extraordinary trust.
“This is entrusted to a great person, who has passion, passion, passion in the field of sports which will be his responsibility,” explained Coordinating Minister Muhadjir.
For information, in 2023, Indonesia will take part in multi-event international sports, namely: 1. Sea Games Cambodia (5-17 May); 2. ANOC World Beach Games Bali (5-12 August); 3.
